IESHC Club Bulletin 6 August 2021

We hope you enjoyed the Olympics, especially the hockey of course. How brilliant to see our very own Sam Beveridge (Women’s 1s Coach) with the GB Women’s Squad winning a Bronze medal overnight! Congratulations to Sam and the support team and of course all the players.

1 Club Award Winners

Many congratulations to everyone who won an award this year – it was great to be able to present many of you with your awards after the AGM last month.

Junior training

The Junior section will return to Sunday training on Sunday 12 September – make sure the date is in your diary. We are also planning a transition training session for any Juniors going into Year 8 and above in the evening of Friday 3 September – more details to follow in an email to eligible players.

4 Coaching vacancy

We are looking to find a regular coach to run the women’s club training on Wednesday. This is a PAID ROLE. Anyone interested should contact Naomi: nj_12@hotmail.co.uk or Charlie: charlie.farrow@englandhockey.co.uk

5 Saturday fixtures / New League season

We have arranged fixtures for most club teams on Saturday 11 September (home and away) v Harleston Magpies. Captains will be in touch with details. The new Area league fixtures start on Saturday 18 September. Times and still be to be confirmed but fixtures can be found here: https://fixtures.englandhockey.co.uk/

6 Club Day

We had hoped to run a Club Day (with a charity element) on Saturday 4 September but there is currently no pitch availability at Rushmere on that day. If anything is possible we will let everyone know ASAP. If a Club Day isn’t possible, we will have a Club Showcase / new members’ session on Saturday 11 September instead, details tbc.

7 Summer holiday sessions

It was great to see so many of our Juniors taking part in our summer holiday hockey sessions. These were led by a team of our Young Leaders, and involved three mornings of skills development which finished in style with a water balloon fight and slip & slide goal scoring – so much fun!

8 First aid session

We had an extremely useful and interesting first aid session at the club on 21 July, led by sports injury specialist Ollie Howard. Attended by senior section players and junior section young leaders, coaches and parents. This covered how to deal with some of the particular injuries we may come across on the hockey pitch, plus the chance to practice some resuscitation and use a defibrillator. Thanks to Ollie and all those who attended.

9 Injury rehab and performance services

We have negotiated reduced costs for IES hockey club members for appointments with Ollie Howard (graduate sport therapist) who specialises in sports injuries and adolescent athletes.  Our members (players and coaches) will save £5 per treatment session. To contact Ollie text or call 07527055088. He is currently based at Sports Med East in Ipswich.

We hope to see you all soon
