IES Men’s 1st XI travelled to Peterborough this week looking to build on their win last week, trips to Peterborough always produce close games and this week proved to be no different.
IES started well and dominated the first half taking the game to Peterborough, IES played the ball around well with pace and accuracy which opened up Peterborough and before long IES were 1-3 up. Peterborough continued to look for another goal which came from a short corner which was not defended well enough and allow Peterborough to make the score 2-3 at half time.
The second half Peterborough came out the stronger and pull another goal back to make it 3-3 and IES seemed to be going through a bad period in the match and could not retain possession and Peterborough punished them for this to take the lead in the game for the first time 4-3. However IES are a new team this year and they don’t give up until the final whistle as they have proved in recent games and today was to be no different. A well worked short corner routine allow them to make the scores even again and they had a number of other chance to finish the game off but time run out and the scores finished even.
All in all this was a good result on the road and very good first half performance and they showed great team spirit and determination to come away with a point.
IES are in a local derby against Ipswich next week looking to take all three points.
